BioLargo’s AOS Filter Receives Coveted Technology Star Award

SANTA ANA, CA–(Marketwired – Nov 10, 2014) – BioLargo, Inc. (OTCQB: BLGO) announced today its AOS Filter had been named the best “Health, Safety & Environment” technology by the editorial staff at the Calgary based oil industry trade publication New Technology Magazine. It is featured in its annual “Technology Stars” fall awards.

New Technologies Magazine launched “Technology Stars” in 2010 to recognize new ideas and technologies that promote the entrepreneurial spirit in the oil and gas energy sector. Each fall, New Technology Magazine recognizes the most innovative new technologies introduced in four different categories (best exploration technology, best drilling technology, best production technology, and best HSE technology). The editorial staff describes the awards’ importance in the following way: “Through these awards, we recognize those who have made the Canadian oilpatch what it is today — among the most technologically advanced, entrepreneurial and resourceful oil and gas sectors in the world.” The magazine also published a feature article about BioLargo and its AOS Filter, titled “Nature Shows the Way,” which appears in this month’s ‘Ingenuity in the Patch’ edition. With permission, BioLargo republished the article on its blog (click here).

Dennis Calvert, President & CEO of BioLargo, commented, “We are pleased by this important independent recognition of our AOS Filter as a scientific breakthrough and potential game-changing technology by a leading Canadian oil industry publication. This award comes on the heels of a series of milestone accomplishments:

  • the co-founding of a leading NSERC backed research chair at the University of Alberta joined by the top 5 oil companies from Canada and other key stakeholders to evaluate all potential technical solutions to clean up the oil sands tailings ponds;
  • the granting of the first patent covering the AOS Filter early this year; the definitive proof of technical claims work at the University of Alberta confirming high speed / low power / continuous flow potential to dismantle difficult contaminants;
  • the expansion of work to include applications in food production and agriculture;
  • University confirmation of the AOS Filter’s role in high level disinfection with results that, by all accounts are, ‘unprecedented;’
  • the formation of our subsidiary BioLargo Water; and
  • the expansion of research team members, offices and laboratory resources at Discovery Place in Alberta to accelerate our journey towards commercialization and optimization of the AOS design.

“Our work has expanded from its original focus on commercial scale piloting in the oil sands and now includes a rapidly expanding scope to food and agriculture. We expect to accelerate the commercial trials in these areas as resources and opportunities permit. We have also begun a methodical process of reaching out to industry in search of suitable strategic alliances to refine the applications for high value and high margin uses within various water industry segments and ultimate licensure. We have much more to share as the work continues and we narrow in on target commercial milestones.”
