BioLargo Strengthens Intellectual Property Portfolio With Two New U.S. Patents

SANTA ANA, CA–(Marketwired – Jul 1, 2014) –BioLargo, Inc. (OTCQB: BLGO) announced it was issued two new patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”) further strengthening its growing patent portfolio and demonstrating multiple technical fields for application of the company’s advanced iodine platform technology.

U.S. Patent number 8,757,253 was issued on June 24, 2014 for the moderation of oil extraction waste environments, and U.S. Patent number 8,734,559 was issued on May 27, 2014 for the moderation of animal waste environments. Both patents validate and further protect BioLargo’s advanced iodine technology, which utilizes iodine chemistry and polymer science for providing increased performance and functionality of flocculants to bind and extract contaminants and to enhance odor and microbial control. The patents focus on the company’s technology applications within oil and gas waste streams and agriculture waste streams.

Dennis Calvert, President of BioLargo, stated: “These new patents further validate the usefulness of our advanced iodine technology in multiple areas of interest. Through our commercial scale pilot work with the University of Alberta, we have demonstrated the significant role our Advanced Oxidation System (AOS) Filter technology can have on oil and gas wastewater treatment, as well as in agriculture and food processing. These two new patents complement our AOS Filter by demonstrating the usefulness of our technology in providing simple and sustainable technical solutions to help industries create clean operating environments.”
